YES, I WORK IN SOCIAL Yes, I work in social. For those of us who do, the response we generally get from those who don’t, typically falls into one of the following: So like, PR? That’s cute I can’t believe that’s a job I hate millennials Ugh, you and every other girl on Bumble. If you’re anything like me, then, depending on your mood and competitive nature, you may proceed to explain how social is literally driving cultural change, movements, brand perceptions, and like, SALE$ . Real talk: you may want to think about how what we, social experts, do affects customer loyalty and influences […]

For the next six weeks, we will profile a few influential leaders each week to learn who they are following, liking, and RTing –– on and off the clock. Two of our Vice Presidents of Accounts, Darnell Brisco and Caitlin Robertson share their favorite platforms and handles for getting up to speed industry news, know-how, and snark. Darnell Brisco, @Dbrisco “I spend the most time on Instagram and Twitter. They complement each other well in my consumption habits. Curated visuals/micro-videos vs a steady stream of constant news.” […]

Don’t rely on YouTube to pay your bills It’s certainly been an interesting few weeks on YouTube, especially on the revenue front. We’ve heard from several creators – both in and out of the Fullscreen Creator Network, that CPMs have dropped heavily and revenue is following suit. Since it doesn’t affect everyone equally, and there are a whole slew of reasons that CPMs are dropping, we’re going to save that for another day. Today, we’re going to tackle on a harder hitting topic. Don’t expect to make money on YouTube. This statement gains more weight each and every year, and likely won’t slow up anytime soon. Let’s talk about age-restricted videos Over the last 24 hours, several creators, both in and out of the Fullscreen family, have come forward to report that some of their videos are being removed from users viewing content via the “Restricted Mode”. In an attempt to gather clarification, we reached out directly to YouTube, and while they aren’t able to reveal specifics about their algorithm, it seems that this comes down to specific metadata terms and age-restricted content. In a nutshell… Creators are finding out that some of their videos are not visible to particular audiences, specifically: “users who are logged out, are under 18 years […]

Goodbye, YouTube annotations The day we all knew was eventually coming has finally arrived. YouTube is officially pulling the plug on annotations. Now before you start freaking out, let’s take a look at what this all means. It was only a matter of time YouTube has been not-so-subtly hinting at this change for quite some time now, and for good reason. With more than 60% of watchtime happening on mobile devices, annotations were becoming more useless by the day. More often than not, when you point to yourself and ask your viewers to “click on my face to subscribe”, clicking does absolutely nothing. […]
