Giveaways: Are they a good idea? I’ll give something away – people will love me and I’ll gain so many new fans! No. And no. More often than not, giveaways are a terrible idea, and we have first-hand experience on why you probably shouldn’t waste your time and money. Over the years, I’ve personally run numerous giveaways, and helped plan giveaways for companies I’ve worked at, including the one we ran for the Fullscreen Arcade reboot. Twitter flies into the Uploader! The title says it all – Twitter has come to the Fullscreen Uploader to further empower your multi-platform strategies, sitting alongside YouTube, Facebook, and Dailymotion. Multi-platform world As we’ve previously discussed, if you’re looking to grow your online presence and revenue, YouTube cannot be your only focus. Facebook and Twitter can play a major part in building up an audience on other platforms, while still driving traffic back to YouTube. Regardless, attention spans are at all time lows, and if the Vine era has […]

Tiny channels. Big challenges. Greetings, creators! One of the questions we see quite regularly is “As a smaller channel, how can my videos get discovered?” On an ever-growing platform like YouTube, discovery becomes more difficult with each passing day, and unless you’re producing wildly unique content, many of your videos will get buried amongst the millions that are uploaded each week. While we have a set of proprietary algorithms which looks for up-and-coming creators, it’s impossible to catch them all. That’s why we’re launching a new initiative called Tiny Channels. Big Challenges to find creators who live and think outside the box. Each month we’ll be launching […]

Finding Joy on YouTube As a YouTuber, no doubt you’ve felt it. That annoying urge to just give it all up, retire early, and live out the rest of your life in a log cabin far away from everything. Why is it that we feel this way? The answer is actually quite simple, and somewhat selfish. Money and popularity; the two larger reasons why people start YouTube in the first place, and usually the main reasons they quit. Today, I’m here to help encourage three different YouTubers. Those that are just starting their YouTube adventure, those that have been creating on YouTube with (what feels […]

Production Tips: Finding the right camera In this series we’ve discussed the importance of lighting, chatted about the various tools available to enhance your audio recording and now, without further ado – it’s time to finish the holy trinity and discuss the camera. Often you’ll see comments on videos like “What camera did you use?” or “What was this shot on?” and for people like Casey Neistat, FunForLouis, Ben Brown and others, it’s become common practice to list their gear in their video’s description to help fend off the rabid camera-junkies. It goes without saying, having a camera is pretty crucial to the video making process. […]
