“If you don’t use Stories on Instagram or Live on Facebook, you’re not going to grow. Period.”
That’s quite the bold statement (and I’m not just talking about the type treatment), but how accurate is it?
You may not like my answer, but it’s pretty on point. Companies like Facebook and Instagram don’t release new features for the sake of releasing features. Everything that finds its way into the app is carefully thought out in an attempt to improve the user experience, increase engagement, and keep up with the ever-growing industry. Because of this, the interface and algorithms are often updated to promote and support new features such as Stories and Live, while legacy features are shuffled down into the deck – potentially slowing views and engagement.
The proof is in the pudding. Or on your timeline.
You don’t need to look far to see this in action. When Facebook launched support for native video or recently Live broadcasts, their algorithm was updated to weigh heavily on this content. This resulted in an increase in video views, and users who jumped on this change early saw an uptick in their growth.
Try something new!
If you’re one to put off new features or prefer the “good old times”, it may be time to try out something new – especially if you’re looking to grow your presence. Services are definitely pointing the spotlight on their new features, and this will likely continue to be the case.
